Porto has now 6 new hotels, a restaurant, a museum, and an events hall to offer. Turismo de Portugal claims that the tourism scene in Porto is being transformed by the creation of these new hotels and cultural venues; most of them are considered a part of the heritage of humanity. Turismo de Portugal highlights the 5-star The Yeatman Oporto which opens this Sunday in Gaia, the 4-star Hotel Teatro in the Baixa of Porto that has been open since May, and the 3-star Star Inn Porto since 2008. The remaining lodgings are the Carris Porto Ribeira hotel (4-stars, in the Praça da Ribeira), the 5-star Intercontinental (the first of this international chain in Portugal, and in a renovated Cardosas Palace), and the Inspira Flores Hotel  (4-star, in the vicinity of the São Bento station).

Carris Hoteles - a Spanish Hotel Chain - will open a new 4 star hotel Carris Porto Ribeira with approximately 90 bedrooms beautifully located in the heart of the historic centre, very close to the Douro River. Carris Hoteles business concept comprises modern, comfortable and clean hotels, well-equiped, economic and located in the city downtown. The Hotel Carris Porto Ribeira is already a member of Porto Convention Bureau.

Intercontinental Cardosas Palace – July 2011

Inspira Flores Hotel – At this moment we are unable to share the predicted opening date, since the project has fallen behind schedule.

The total value for these new infrastructures sums up to 101.9 million Euros, and these projects are creating 339 jobs and adding 1,186 to the number of beds available for accommodation in the city of Porto. Not only that, but the funds exceed 37.4 million Euros from TP and credit institutions.

Turismo de Portugal points out that many of these projects are recovered and renovated patrimonial and historical buildings, which contributes to the revitalization of the historical centre of Porto.

Porto also now has DOP – Degustar e Ousar no Porto (tasting and daring in Porto) restaurant - in the Palace of the Artes, as well as the Hard Club which holds exhibitions, shows, and commercial events. Both projects received financial aid from TP.

The process of upgrading Porto University’s Science Museum as well as the new Hotel Management and Tourism School of Porto -it will hold double its previous capacity and is to be opened at the beginning of October- are still under way.
