The “Bachelorette" has disclosed that its new season was filmed in part in Lisbon. So, look for Lisbon as one of the backdrops to love and betrayal for season 6 staring Ali Fedotowsky (who dumped bachelor Jake Pavelka) as the Bachelorette. The season will premiere on ABC this May 24, 2010. As a city, Lisbon is often referred to as one of the most romantic places in Europe with charming hotels, chique eateries, late night nightclubs, vintage trolleys and grand attractions. Add to that Lisbon's 4,000 years of history, and it's easy to understand why this picturesque town and the hills surrounding it have been the focus of attention from the 2010 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit and J. Crew.
Portugal is forecasting an increase in U.S. visitors this summer, and just set a record for Americans arriving by cruise ship. Americans helped increase the incoming market ranking it to the 8th largest and the 6th largest in terms of spending.
The Bachelorette is a spin-off of the American reality dating game show, The Bachelor. It debuted on January 2003 on ABC, running until February 28, 2005. Then, the series returned to ABC during the spring of 2008, following an absence of three years. Season 6 Lisbon (2010) stars Ali Fedotowsky, who walked away from bachelor Jake Pavelka, as the sixth Bachelorette.
Yes, Lisbon is always Lisbon!
Lisboa é Sempre Lisboa….
Lisbon is always Lisbon
Of alley ways and tiny streets
And of the simple houses of the Alfama and Madragoa.
Of lovers in the windows.
The Marches of the people.
The ancient cathedral,
And the processions of faith.
With its street peddlers
Lisbon is always Lisbon.
- Tristão da Silva

2. NEWS: Mude and Paula Rego Museum in Lisbon
MUDE- More than 170 items are on display to the public in the recently opened Lisbon's Design and Fashion Museum (MUDE) installed in number 24 of the historic Rua Augusta, in the former headquarters of the Banco Nacional Ultramarino. MUDE is doing an ongoing transformation of the space of more than 3,000 square meters to house some 2,000 items of design and 1,200 of fashion purchased in 2002 from collector Francisco Capelo. The museum intends to express the change and innovation inherent in design and fashion and increase awareness of the importance of design in modern society. The exhibition program is structured around four major areas: Permanent Exhibition, Temporary Program, Museum City and Digital Museum. Permanent Exhibition - Using a historical perspective, the exhibition contextualizes design and relates it to the advancement of technology, socio-political evolution, economic progress and artistic creation. It also presents the underlying processes of design, highlighting the pieces that best exemplify this in each collection.
Paula Rego Museum - The new
Casa das Historias Paula Rego Museum opened on September 18, 2009 in Cascais dedicated to the work of the Portuguese painter Paula Rego and designed by architect Eduardo Souto Moura. The museum is located in the historical center of Cascais village, and features more than 100 of Rego’s paintings and sketches. Rego, considered part of the “London Group” of artists which also includes David Hockney and R.B. Kitaj, has an illustrative and figurative style in magical realism, influenced by fairy tales and Beatrix Potter books. Her fairy tale imagery often has a sinister edge. The Casa das Historias hosts two temporary exhibitions per year, launched in Autumn and Spring that are centered on the many questions raised by Paula Rego's work, exploring a wide range of possibilities, essentially in the field of Art History. The March to September 2010 is dedicated to Victor Willing, Paula Rego's late husband that bring together the paintings loaned by the artist to the collection of the Casa das Historias, with some other fundamental works by this remarkable painter and art critic. Free entrance.

5. EATS: New Restaurants in Lisbon
Many new restaurants have opened in Lisbon lately.
According to Lonely Planet, every star chef in the city opened a new restaurant this year, and one of them, José Avillez, earned a Michelin star for the legendary Tavares Restaurant. Among the most promising new openings are Henrique Sa Pessoa’s Alma, Ljubomir Stanisic’s 100 Maneiras , and Vitor Sobral’s Tasca da Esquina, and since this week you can add Luís Baena’s Manifesto. It’s located in the Santos neighborhood which since being designated Lisbon’s Design District four years ago has attracted a large number of stylish new shops and restaurants. His new gourmet restaurant will accommodate around 50 people and will offer a different menu for lunch and dinner. It will be cheaper at lunchtime, but remain reasonably-priced for dinner. It will present an open kitchen and a glassed wall to the street offering views of the exterior, the garden-park of Largo de Santos.” There is also the new “Largo” located in Chiado in an old cloister by the opera house. The décor is the creation of Miguel Câncio Martins, mostly known for Paris’ famous Buddha Bar, while the menu is the work of Miguel Castro e Silva, one of Portugal’s most acclaimed chefs that opened recently the De Castro Restaurant at 180 B Avenida Elias Garcia also in Lisbon. In December 2009 the president of the Elite model agency owns Lisbon’s latest hip restaurant. Opaq that is located on a street just off Largo Conde Barão in the Santos neighborhood, and was given a glam look to match the clientele. It’s about contemporary design, with white and purple tones. More recently Portugal’s most international Fashion Designer Fátima Lopes opened a Restaurant in Lisbon: “Unique” that offers contemporary Portuguese cuisine, created by João Simões, a rising star in Lisbon’s gastronomy. Yum!
