A new museum, boat tours, and a two-mile trail are all part of this flavorful new experience. The salt museum is located in the seaside resort town of Figueira da Foz, at the mouth of the river Mondego and next to the salt pans of Corredor da Cobra. Visitors can gain new insight into one of the most precious substances in human history. Here you can learn of the history of salt, the evolution of the production of salt in Portugal, the salt pans of Figueira, and how salt is part of our global environment. Then hop on an historic salt boat to see the salt ponds, and learn how salt is produced for export.
